In the jungle, it's the lions who rule as kings. One early foggy morning in a jungle known to its inhabitants as ‘Paradise Jungle,’ the biggest and strongest lion, named Hercules, who was also the king of rhymes and witty sayings, announced that there was to be a birth in the lions’ kingdom:
"There will be a new Prince, for a baby lion will be joining our pack within weeks! I want you all to prepare, this may be the jungle, but baby lions require tender care!" Hercules declared this every morning when the lions awoke; cranky and hungry, as well as any other jungle animals that happened to be nearby.
"Phooey!" yelled the youngest member of the pack, named Prince Spectacular, but his father called him Speckles. "Baby lions need to be strong and tough to survive, do they not?"
"Yes, but a baby cannot even achieve strength unless he has tender care in his early days of his life!" Hercules insisted.
Weeks later, the new baby lion was born. Hercules stood on a huge boulder and roared. "Grrrrrrrrrrrr! I am the mightiest lion of all the LAND!" he proclaimed. Then he jumped off the boulder and the ground shook. Then he announced, "I want all the young lions and lionesses to come gather round!"
They all came running, except for Speckles, who was still not quite awake in his den.
"Speckles approach the bed of our newest Prince!" hollered the king with a thunderous roar.
Speckles ran out of his den and up to the baby's bed and sat down before his basket.
Hercules focused on his son’s reaction. He wanted Speckles to gently stroke his baby brother’s soft downy fur. "Note the marvel upon his face. I declare his name will be called Prince Marvelous, but I shall refer to him as Marvels!
Speckles nodded and started hitting Marvels’ back to see his fur fluff up in a puff of softness.
"Speckles stop. Cease I say!" ordered Hercules. Then he took Speckle's paw and put his enormous paw over the top of Speckles,' in order to control his movements. "Do n...i...c....e." He repeated over and over in a long drawn out voice, while making a light, slow stroking motion across Marvels’ soft fluffy fur, just like a human father teaches his son gentleness.
He continued doing so until Speckles began doing it himself and Marvel began to purr loudly. "Now let it be known throughout the land, when stroking a new baby's fur, be gentle with each tiny strand. For although he will be strong indeed, not yet at birth; he needs to be handled gently, before he can become ruler over all the earth."
"So you think it's lions who are rulers of all the earth?" the jungle animals heard a voice say out of no where. Then a graceful lioness emerged. It was the mother lion, Queen Helena!
"Hercules, I approve of your teachings about the importance of a gentle touch, but you forgot to teach the pack and others in the jungle something else that means so much. Yes you are the king and ruler of this jungle, but you are forgetting about the King of kings, the one who gave us this precious baby bundle!”
Then king Hercules thought before he spoke...... "Let us thank the Lord our God for this new life and let it be known to all," he announced from the highest stone: "The mother of my cubs CAN RECITE A few witty sayings of her own!"
