LIVING FOR SUNDAY:
A Poem/Bible Study Combo
"Okay, Bible students, let's take it easy. These debates are healthy as long as we keep them civil and uncontentious. "Jake would you mind repeating that last thing you said? The room got so loud; I'm sure I'm not the only one who didn't hear you," asked Pastor Billy, as his students attempted to subdue their banter. "Well, I was merely explaining that my poem uses symbolism for the word 'Sunday,' not that taking it literally is incorrect, it's just that if that's all you see then you miss the bigger picture in which I'm trying to convey, which is that believers should have a heart that's on fire for God.......We should be living for Sunday in reality, by loving the church, but metaphorically speaking as well, by loving Jesus more than anything, every day of the week..... Through our love for God, there should be passion in our prayers, and passion at church.....The word 'Sunday' is literal and symbolic at the same time. We shouldn't come to church as a rule or law.......and certainly not as a crutch," Jake answered, as he began to sit back down. "Wait a minute, I think we all understand what you mean about the law, but what is this you are saying about church being used as a crutch?" Pastor Billy inquired. "I know you're studying to become a pastor, so tell me what I missing here?" Everyone laughed, as well as Pastor Billy. "Well, I realize some believers have a more intense need for guidance and accountability and there's nothing wrong with that, and nothing to be ashamed of AT ALL, but for the majority of the church to abide in fear that their salvation isn't enough is a sad countenance for believers.....Everyone needs to know that the church, no matter how great, cannot save us, and is certainly not more important than our own personal relationship with God. That's what I mean when I say the church shouldn't be used as a crutch,' Jake explained, this time sitting all the way back down. "I once heard someone say that even if we sit in church all day, that doesn't make us true Christians, anymore than sitting in a garage all day can make us into cars," he added. Everyone laughed. "Yeah! That's an awesome point, as important as the church is, and IT IS, believers have the Holy Spirit indwelling," explained Pastor Billy. "And, the Bible says that believers are the temple of God; meaning we are the church"-- "Do you not know that you are the temple of God and that the Spirit of God dwells in you?" (1Corinthians 3:16) "Would everyone like to hear that poem again?" Pastor Billy asked his study group. Everyone answered by shouting and applauding loudly.... Then, Jake stood up and read his poem. This time, everyone listened intently-- "LIVING FOR SUNDAY The church of God has taken me in, and that’s why I live before His Throne; for Jesus was buried, but rose to Life, as they learned by rolling the stone.
So, now I’m living for Sunday, with Him always in complete charge; some folks saying that’s far too much! OH, how they misunderstand what it means to live large!
So, today and every day of the week, I look to Him first; for this is all I have come to crave, for He has captivated my senses and overtaken my heart, much like He has conquered the grave!
Oh, what if everyone lived for Sunday
What a wondrous world we would see;
people treating one another in love
oh, what a wonderful world this would be! And if all of mankind were living for Sunday,
the streets would stay safe,
day and night;
doors would always stand open,
and far away would be
all reason for fright. And if all of mankind were living for Sunday, the sun would, perhaps shine in new ways; all of creation, like on holiday, would glisten like a new old-fashioned day.
The church of God has taken me in and that’s why I live before His Throne, for Jesus was buried, but rose to Life, as they learned by rolling the stone."
“YEAH! Right on! We love YOU Jesus!…….. Amen, Halleluiah” everyone shouted, and applauded even louder than before!
